Multiplying Fractions
1-Minute Math: Multiplying Fractions. Learn 2 ways to multiply fractions in less time than it takes to order a pizza!
Multiplying two fractions together can be pretty straightforward if we have
a/b x c/d we just multiply straight across and have a times C/B x D
For example 3 over 4 times 1 over 5 we'll just end up being 3 over 20
sometimes though the end result won't always be in simplest form let's take a
look at another example 6 over 7 times 3 over 4 if we multiply straight across
would be 18 over 28 these two values have a common factor though we can
factor 18 into 9 times 2 and 28 into 14 times 2 reduce and have our final answer
of 9 over 14 another way to approach this is to simplify first notice here
that 6 and 4 have a common factor of 2 so if we factor first we can reduce the
twos out right away multiply across and end up with 9 over 14 as well both ways
will always work but simplifying first can avoid some large values that are
difficult to deal with.
